SMEs and Cybersecurity

On June 5, 2025, we teamed up with CyberContract for a cybersecurity event at De Kwekerij Lier. The goal was simple: help small businesses understand why cybersecurity matters and show them how to protect themselves without spending a fortune.

Why It’s a Big Deal

Almost half of the businesses in Flanders were hit by a cyberattack last year. And yes, small businesses are on that list. Hackers love easy targets, and SMEs often don’t realize how attractive that makes them.
The good news? You don’t need a big IT team to stay safe. A few smart steps can make a huge difference.

What We Shared

Ben Van Erck, our CEO, kicked things off with practical tips like stronger passwords, multi-factor authentication, and affordable security tools. Then Stef Vermeulen from CyberContract showed how to run quick risk checks and train your team to spot phishing emails. These are things you can start doing today.

The Big Takeaway

Cybersecurity is people, not just tech. Every employee plays a role. And starting small is better than doing nothing. One strong password or one extra security layer can save you a lot of trouble. It doesn’t have to be scary or expensive. Start now, keep learning, and protect what you’ve built.
